Method
Where the numbers come from, and how we fix mistakes.
Current status: this site runs on a sample data set. Scores, lines, injuries and weather shown here are illustrative and not real. A licensed feed will replace them before launch.
What THE SHEET is
A free sports information site: scores, box and line scores, analysis, stats, injuries, weather, schedules and market line context. We do not publish picks, predictions, best bets, records or units, and nothing here is advice.
Data sources (planned)
- Scores, schedules, box scores and injuries: a licensed official-data provider. Candidates are listed in the repository's DATA.md.
- Lines: a consensus of several licensed sportsbooks via an odds API. Opening line = first number we record; closing line = last number before the scheduled start.
- Weather: a forecast API at the venue for outdoor games; domes and closed roofs are marked Indoor.
Definitions
- Spread is always shown for the home team. −3 means the home team is a 3-point favorite.
- Margin vs. close = home margin + home closing spread. Above zero, the home team covered; below zero, the away team covered; zero is a push.
- Over/Under compares total points with the closing total.
- Line move = closing spread minus opening spread.
Colors and symbols
Outcome chips always carry a symbol and a word as well as color: W ▼ UNDER = PUSH ◷ 7:00 PM. The palette is chosen to be distinguishable with common forms of color blindness.
Corrections policy
- Errors in scores, stats or lines are corrected as soon as we confirm them, and the page shows a dated correction note.
- Corrections to a newsletter issue are published in the next issue and on the archived issue page.
- Analysis is attributed to a named writer. We do not quote people we have not interviewed or cited.
- Report a problem from any page; we reply to every report. (Contact address to be added before launch.)
Independence
THE SHEET is supported by readers. Optional supporter membership changes how the site looks and adds convenience tools. It never unlocks data or content.
